In this blog, I will explain what a ductless heat pump is, and why you might want to consider getting one for your home in Nanaimo.

What is a Ductless Heat Pump?

A ductless heat pump is what it sounds like. It’s a heat pump that operates without having ductwork in your home. Instead, it has a small indoor unit transferring the heat or cold air through your space or home. If you’re unsure of how a heat pump works, no worries, we will have another post about that shortly. The short of it is this: Heat pumps use electricity and refrigerant to move heat from one place to another. Normally, a heat pump would be paired with a furnace, which would also be connected to air ducts throughout your home. Unfortunately, a lot of homes in Nanaimo don’t have ductwork. Ductless heat pumps are applicable to other situations too, not just ones without ductwork.

Applications of Ductless Heat Pumps:

Ductless heat pumps are very versatile. They have a single outdoor unit, which can house anywhere from 1-5 indoor units. You can have more outdoor and indoor units, but most applications in Nanaimo won’t require this.  Each indoor unit is independent of each other, meaning you can have a different temperature in each room if you’d like. They each have full control of your home’s temperatures.

Only ramping up when it needs to, and when it reaches that desired speed it calms back down just enough to maintain it. Old technology operates like a truck in the city: starting and stopping frequently; burning more gas than required.
